Cake Equipment

Which cake equipment do you need to start decorating a cake?  If you're icing a cake for the first time we highly recommend a top smoother and side smoother to iron out all those icing bumps. Use a large 16 inch non stick rolling pin instead of an old wooden one, a cranked palette knife to trim your edges to give your cake that professional finish.

Once you've mastered the basic cake decorating equipment try experimenting with sugar flower cutters and impress your friends every time.  You should find all the cake equipment you will even need to decorate a cake or cupcakes.

tools

Modelling Tools & Equipment

When you start cake decorating you will find you will need lots of icing tools and cake decorating equipment to achieve some designs.  Initially two must-have trick of the trade items are a Top Smoother and a Side Smoother. We couldn't make a cake without these icing tools; they give a professional finish.

Here you will find lots of icing tools including Rolling Pins, Ball Tool, Crimpers, Pallette Knives and lots more....

cutters

Sugarcraft Cutters

Whether you are a beginner or a professional cake maker you will find cutters to have fun with or create a masterpiece to be proud of. We sell a range of cake cutters from childrens cookie cutters, sugar flower cutters to letter and number cutters and shape cutter such as football cutters and butterfly plunger cutters.

We reccommend using Squires Flower Paste or Wilton Gum Paste for use in delicate sugar cutters.

cookie cutter

Cookie Cutters

Have fun in the kitchen with cookie cutters and shapes. Why not try using these cutters with different coloured fondant icing.

A great tip when making cookies is that you can use the same sized cookie cutter for the icing on top of the cookie.  This is because the cookie will slightly expand when cooking.

Check out our super mini cookie cutters they are very cute.

Cookie Cutter Sets

Cookie Cutter Sets

We sell a range of cookie cutter sets in all colours, shapes and sizes.  Great for the serious cookie maker or just for a bit of fun with the children.

Letter & Number Cutters

Alpha Numerical Cutters

If you're not too keen on piping a message use letter and number cutters to convey your message.  Although metal cutters are a lot more expensive they give a clean crisp cut.  We always use the alphabet cutters when making a football shirt for example.

Clikstix letter and number cutters have the benefit of an ejector to easily release the icing.  We usually use flower paste rolled out extremely thin then leave for about half an hour to crust over then use the cutters.  This will ensure an easy release.

For something a bit more fun spell out your name with the alphabet cookie cutters.

nozzles

Nozzles & Piping Bags

Here you will find PME nozzles and Wilton nozzles. We highly recommend a 1.5 nozzle for writing and the Large Buttercream nozzle for Cupcakes. Use the disposable piping bags for fine, delicate work and a re-usable piping bag for buttercream.  Secure with a piping bag adapter for extra stability.

Piping tubes will last a lifetime so look after them and make sure they are clean before putting away.  Try using a large plain tube for potatoes or multi star tube for grass.

dummy

Dummies

We sell a range of cake dummies including round cake dummies, square cake dummies and heart-shaped cake dummies.

You can use cake dummies to create and showcase your work or give your wedding cake an extra tier without having to bake an extra cake for that tier!

Simply use a little water on the cake dummy to adhear the icing or marzipan.

Veiners & Embossers

Moulds, Veiners & Embossers

Flower and leaf veiners give a professional finish to any sugar foliage.  Simply press the veiner on the sugar petal or leaf to create the veins you would see in nature.  You will find the multi veiner will do for most things.

Making a brick wall or stone path?  Try using our new impression mats to create the effect.  Simple!

Stencils

Stencils

Stencils are a quick and effective way of making patterns on your icing.  You can use the cake stencil in many ways; use an airbrush to spray the pattern, stipple dusting powder or apply a very thin layer of icing over the stencil.

Stencils can be washed and used time and time again.

pillars

Pillars & Separators

Wedding cake pillars are traditional but coming back into fashion. Pillars now come in different materials such as perspex pillars or separators and even mirror separators giving a two tier wedding cake extra height.

Make sure you use cake dowells under or through the middle of your pillars and separators to stop the tiers sinking into one another.

books

Books

People often buy books for cooking but rarely think of purchasing a book on cakes. There's a whole range of cake books now available: books on modelling, books on sugar flowers, books on wedding cakes as well as books on designing the cakes themselves.

If you would like to involve children with your cake making, '50 Quick and Easy Kids' Cakes' will give you lots of ideas for fun cake making activities with them.
